Pursuing MA at forty plus

Age is a number, I guess. But it did not feel so when I went to fill up my MA application. I have done my engineering degree some 19 years back and I am now opting to do an MA history. So it felt silly getting copies of SSLC, PUC and my degree marks card xeroxed. It felt still sillier when the administration of MA University asked me 'where is my transfer certificate?'. Who knew? Hasn't it been 20 years or so? I filled their quadriplate challan-I had to do a bit of googling on this. Sorry I did not know what quadriplate meant. Then had to remit the MA fees in the bank. The teller tells me in a threating voice,' I am going to use the name that you have filled in the challan. Is that okay?' I fumble. Then I realize that the name I have given is my married name. And I have filled up the MA application in my maiden name. I am seriously worried and say,' Is it okay that I have given my married name which has the surname slightly different? She gives me a

Working With government schools

Last year I joined Avakaasha Foundation . Its founder is passionate about helping rural government schools, providing them with teachers for English and Science subjects. I have been lucky to have been associated with this foundation for many reasons. Here are a couple of them. Unlike other change makers or agents, I will not say that I like making a difference. No, I don't. I will rather live and let others live peacefully . So what made me excited here? Most of the government schools are located in scenic remote locations. They are most often century-old buildings surrounded by plenty of avenue trees. I love nature and traveling to these remote locations is a very rejuvenating experience for me. Secondly the people. I have found a lack of communication and bonding in urban areas. Maybe I have been unlucky. But the teachers and the principals of the government schools in rural villages are friendly and full of warmth. The way they greet, speak and talk about their struggl
